Image Happenings
Before:
1.
Young Goodman Brown could hear the voices and whispers
of the townspeople as he sat down in the forest.
2. He sees his wife’s,
Faith, pink ribbon hanging on a branch. He believed she was dead and was taken
by the devil (sin). Goodman’s faith in God and good on earth began to fade away
quickly.
3. He begins
hearing noises within the forest such as the trees creaking, howling of wild
beasts, and yells of Indians. He states
that nature was laughing at him especially the demons.
4. He suddenly
sees a red light before him and the trees around him begin to light on fire.
Goodman cries loudly as the wind blows through the trees. He also hears the
choir of the town meeting.
During:
1.
He sees a rock shaped as an altar surround with blazing
pines. The tops of pines resemble the shapes of candles.
2. The fire was
high/bright and lit the whole field.
3. The townspeople
would appear and disappear as the red light would blink on and off.
4. He believed
the townspeople were doing witchcraft.
5. The fire
became a figure and called upon the townspeople. Goodman compared the figure to his father and
steps forward to it.
6. The figure begins
to speak about manifesting evil and the nature of mankind.
7. Goodman sees Faith
again and tells her to resist evil.
8. Suddenly, he
finds himself in silence and alone in the calm forest.
After:
1.
He arrives to Salem Village where he sees the
townspeople doing their duties.
2. Faith sees him
and gives him a warm kiss; however, Goodman is stern and cold.
3. He is confused
as to whether or not he was hallucinating.
4. Goodman remained
traumatized by his dream especially when the congregation would sing and the
minister would pray.
5. He died
gloomy.
