Project 2-Story Events for Young Goodman Brown

Image Happenings

Before:

1.        Young Goodman Brown could hear the voices and whispers of the townspeople as he sat down in the forest.

2.      He sees his wife’s, Faith, pink ribbon hanging on a branch. He believed she was dead and was taken by the devil (sin). Goodman’s faith in God and good on earth began to fade away quickly.

3.      He begins hearing noises within the forest such as the trees creaking, howling of wild beasts, and yells of Indians.  He states that nature was laughing at him especially the demons.

4.     He suddenly sees a red light before him and the trees around him begin to light on fire. Goodman cries loudly as the wind blows through the trees. He also hears the choir of the town meeting.

During:

1.        He sees a rock shaped as an altar surround with blazing pines. The tops of pines resemble the shapes of candles.

2.      The fire was high/bright and lit the whole field.

3.      The townspeople would appear and disappear as the red light would blink on and off.

4.     He believed the townspeople were doing witchcraft.

5.      The fire became a figure and called upon the townspeople.  Goodman compared the figure to his father and steps forward to it.

6.      The figure begins to speak about manifesting evil and the nature of mankind.

7.      Goodman sees Faith again and tells her to resist evil.

8.     Suddenly, he finds himself in silence and alone in the calm forest.

After:

1.        He arrives to Salem Village where he sees the townspeople doing their duties.

2.      Faith sees him and gives him a warm kiss; however, Goodman is stern and cold.

3.      He is confused as to whether or not he was hallucinating.

4.     Goodman remained traumatized by his dream especially when the congregation would sing and the minister would pray.

5.      He died gloomy.
